Laing O’Rourke joins Build UK
Laing O’Rourke is among a group of new clients and contractors who have joined Build UK.
The company is one of five new members this month, including Transport for London (TfL), Alandale Group and Sunvast International UK. Munnelly Support Services becomes the first logistics contractor to join the organisation.
All five join after the Construction Leadership Council (CLC) confirmed its support for the Build UK Roadmap to Zero Retentions. It is encouraging the industry to implement new minimum standards when using cash retentions. The CLC has also endorsed Build UK’s contract terms recommendation and the new industry pre-qualification Common Assessment Standard.
Build UK chief executive Suzannah Nichol said: “The breadth and depth of Build UK’s membership enables us to present a strong voice for industry and effectively influence government, clients and stakeholders.
“Prioritising more efficient ways of working is key, and we can see from the increased engagement in Build UK’s activities that our members understand the power of collaboration and the opportunities they have to make a real difference to the way the industry operates.”
Nichol added that with a new government in place, Build UK expected more direction on political issues such as Brexit and the future of major construction projects. “Build UK has sent a clear message to the prime minister seeking the government’s explicit commitment to infrastructure spending laid out in December’s Queen’s Speech and urging him to ensure central government uses its powers as a responsible client to drive change in the industry for the benefit of the economy as a whole,” she added.
