  1. I assume that if an alternative scheme is completed, the loss alluded to by Mr Khan would not arise to the same extent. I assume all the pre construction pledges of financial assistance were linked to the construction of a garden bridge not necessarily the current scheme. Even if preconstruction costs have been incurred, it might be that this alternative including its own preconstruction development cost is still cheaper than just moving forward with the existing scheme. It must surely be worthy of consideration to find out.

  2. Wasting a bit less money still doesn’t stack up as a logical course of action. If London is lacking green spaces – renovate a brownfield piece of dry land perhaps. These £millions can be put to better use on housing, transport infrastructure, schools and the NHS.

  3. Certainly London does not lack for tourist attractions! However human accommodation seems to be more and more problematic! Surely this should be prioritised rather than a bridge serving such a small minority among the many millions who call London home!

  4. What a great alternative idea. Well worthy of some serious consideration. Green spaces are so valueable to our current and even more so to our future generations.

  5. Nice idea. We have been pursuing something similar for several years – a new urban park on Southwark Bridge:

  6. What about the fact that a new North- South cycle super highway has just about completed passing over Blackfriars bridge? How much money would be spent re-directing that?
