Where does BIM stand on health and safety?

  1. I find this rather reactive? Sure in a Common Data Environment there will be a lot of information available to interrogate. The issue of transparency is something the industry needs to get its head round, and relates to a lot of other aspects besides safety.

    However, I would want to extol the virtues of using BIM tools to be a lot more proactive about safety and logistics and reducing risks, eliminating hazards before the event. Using soft clash detection, walk throughs and visualisations its possible to walk through the construction sequence identifying issues.

    Whilst BIM might help here, we still need to deal with the underlying issues. Does CDM really work? Do designers take their obligations seriously? Are CDM coordinators really effective?

    BIM may well help address some of these issues but I would suggest there are some more fundamental issues to deal with.
