Construction work can continue in people’s homes during the ‘fire break’ coronavirus lockdown that takes effect in Wales tomorrow from 6pm (23 October), despite earlier advice to the contrary.

On Tuesday morning (20 October), Build UK issued an update to warn Welsh construction firms that in-home construction work would be banned unless it was urgent.

The advice was based on a ‘frequently asked questions’ section published by the Welsh government on its website. However, the guidance was later updated to clarify that work carried out in people’s homes can continue as long as it is managed in a safe way and both the worker and household members have no symptoms of coronavirus.

However, the Welsh government recommended that people consider whether the work can be safely deferred until the scheduled end of the lockdown on 9 November.
