Straw is low cost, low carbon and we need to use it more

  1. The concept is a another solution to cutting down carbon emissions, but I understand it would still require external cladding such as brick or similar dependent on planning criteria. Also I understand that some for of internal framing is required and a finished surface all the above would produce carbon in there manufacture? Just one further point is the price going to remain stable bearing in mind that farmers will be producing the basis for the straw panels In the long term I am not convinced!

  2. The thickness of the walls looked as if they were double the thickness of a standard wall, will that mean that the timber frame becomes un-viable? Will it also mean that the floor area of the slab grows bigger and the rooms will be smaller? And just one more point does this mean that straw will double in price for the guys that use it for bedding for animals? Interested to hear some opinions on the matter as it is an interesting concept!!
