See-through hard hats for construction sites
Head injuries on construction sites could be dramatically reduced by using a translucent hard hat, according to workwear company Portwest.
The Irish firm has launched a see-through version of the traditional hard hat which they claim will give workers improved visibility and better peripheral vision, reports CM’s sister site Global Construction Review.
Portwest says its PV50 Peakview Translucent Vented Hard Hat allows the wearer to “see from any angle without excessive head tilting or turning the hat back-to front”.
It is made from a high impact UV400 stabilised polycarbonate which is fully compliant to EN397 and AS/NZS 1801 standards.
The unique selling point is the translucent finish, according to Portwest, which allows greater peripheral vision while scaling ladders and scaffolds, and also encourages workers not to reverse their harnesses and wear the helmets backwards. The company claims to be the first to European and American markets with the hat, which it calls “revolutionary”.
The hat is lightweight and UV400 stabilised, offering protection against UVA and UVB radiation.
