  1. Some will call this a cynical view but I believe Gary has a valid point.

As someone who entered the industry just over 30 years ago I am frustrated that we we fail to drive this industry on. We employ great people yet fall into the same old ways.

Risk is something that needs to be addressed and dealt with not just passed along the line with little or no responsibility as long as it doesn’t sit with you.

  2. Gary Sullivan’s analysis of the Construction Industry that it is encouraged to abrogate its responsibilities rather than own them is unfortunately only too true.
As the disillusioned owner of a seriously defective Bellway new build property, nobody including the builder, the NHBC, the regulators sees it as their responsibility to produce a product that is fit for purpose. It is left for the disadvantaged homeowner to tackle the builders and those who are supposedly appointed to represent their interests singlehandedly.
Until the Government recognises that self regulation is not working then nothing will improve, except shareholders’ dividends, workers’ bonuses and solicitors’ fees.
