Deadline for ‘Golden Thread’ survey extended

The deadline for a survey that aims to help understand the ‘golden thread’ and how it relates to construction has been extended.

The survey, launched jointly by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and i3PT, follows the independent review of Building Regulations and fire safety, which identified the lack of complete, accurate and up-to-date building information was one of the issues that led to the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017.

The review recommended a digital ‘golden thread’ of key building information running through all phases of design, construction and occupation. This in turn has helped to shape proposals for a new regulatory system for building safety in the UK, which form the basis of the new Building Safety Bill that will come before Parliament this year.

The survey aims to help better understand the golden thread, what it is, why it is needed, how it will be implemented, and how prepared for it the construction industry is.

The survey will now close on 4 September and more details can be found at www.goldenthread.co.uk.

The results will be made available to industry and government in a report to be published later this year.
