Construction to continue in 2021 lockdown

Construction work will be allowed to continue in England during the latest coronavirus lockdown.

Build UK advised those working in the industry in England can continue to leave home and travel to and from work under the new restrictions.

Tradespeople will also be able to continue to carry out work in other people’s homes where necessary.

Government guidance released after Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s latest address last night (4 January), in the wake of rising cases, said: “Where people cannot work from home – including, but not limited to, people who work in critical national infrastructure, construction, or manufacturing – they should continue to travel to their workplace. This is essential to keeping the country operating and supporting sectors and employers.”

Businesses providing essential goods and services such as builders’ merchants and suppliers of building products can also remain open.

Guidance on the new national lockdown can be found here.
