  1. I am pleased to see that the watchdog actually has some teeth! Fining the company actually hurts the staff that may not have been complicit as pay rises may be withheld etc to cover the cost of the fine. The board of these companies will no doubt be focused on maintaining profits so that shareholders and dividends are protected. The board and senior management must have known about such practices. If not then they do not have control over their management.

The board (or key parts of it) of these organisations must be culpable to a high degree. Again the watchdog appears silent on any actions to prosecute directors/striking them off. Only, and only when those involved are prosecuted will there be justice.

As always it appears that those who were not involved will pay indirectly for their actions. It is high time that the law on fraud is tightened to ensure action can be taken against such perpetrators. Maybe i look at this too simplistically but for me fraud is fraud in whatever environment it takes place. On this scale i would hope that the Serious Fraud Squad are investigating.
