Two mid-terraced houses worth millions of pounds in London’s Chelsea that were under refurbishment have completely collapsed.
Around 40 people were evacuated from neighbouring properties in Durham Place but fortunately there were no reports of injuries, according to the London Fire Brigade.
The Brigade was called to the four-storey buildings just after 1130pm last night (2 November), while the Metropolitan Police Service set up a 25m cordon around the site.
It is thought renovation work was being carried out throughout the two buildings, including in the basements of the properties
Station commander Jason Jones, who was at the scene, said: “There was a total collapse of the building from the roof to ground level.
“Firefighters worked to make the scene safe and our drone team carried out a search.
“A police search dog also carried out an external search of the building and at this stage, there are no reports of any injuries. Nobody is thought to have been inside the building at the time of the collapse.”

Surprised the HSE despite their lack of resources is not investigating. When this was originally flagged up over 10 years ago, as a issue with the large amount of basement developments under existing buildings new or old are not notified to the HSE under CDM, where structural and temporary works is not planned, managed, monitored and coordinated.
