  1. Interesting reading, but not surprising considering that the HSE endorses SMSTS. This 5 day back door route certificate is all one needs to be passed off as a site manager. For example this is an actual question:
When should you sound the fire alarm?
    A never
    B when site is closing
    C when pizza is delivered
D when there is a fire

The HSE do not recognise the CIOB, HND, HNC, NVQ or NEBOSH. Accidents and deaths on site will continue to rise until a higher benchmark standard is introduced. At present an unemployed window cleaner can pay for an SMSTS course, and call himself a site manager, when the certificate arrives 10 weeks after passing. The course also has a 98.5% pass rate, which as the question above demonstrates, is designed not to be failed.

The CIOB even endorses SMSTS at its CPD events, which I find staggering, as the institute retorts that it promotes continuous professional development. Yet it allows SMSTS course providers, who are the only benefactors, to advertise their services at CPD events
