Emergency services are trying to free a construction worker who has been trapped in a trench for five hours.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue were called to the site of a housing development on Rossett Green Lane just before 9am this morning.

The worker has reportedly been trapped under clay and tarmac following the collapse of the trench.

Fire crews from Harrogate, Tadcaster and Knaresborough have been called to the scene, along with specialist teams from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and ambulance teams.

In a statement, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and from Yorkshire Ambulance Service remain at the scene and are working together to free the individual.”
